18/11/23 - Charettes Work

Over the weekend, I was working on the Global Charettes Project with the rest of my group.

I was tasked along with Mosad to illustrate the sketch that had been drawn for the UK representing social media post, and come up with a description to go alongside it.

I began creating my design on Adobe Animate, as that's the software that I felt most comfortable using. I decided that I would work on illustrating the background and puppet, if Mosad would work on the surrounding objects representing the other countries' cultures, which he agreed with.

I started by working on the background, as I thought that this would be the easiest section. I followed the suggested wooden unit background of the sketch, which was based off of the main poster, and tried to keep the same colour palette and artistic style as what others had used, so that all of our work looked as similar as possible.

I then started working on the puppet's design. To do this, I used the design that other group members had already created, and tried my best to replicate it, so that it looked almost identical to the original puppet which would be on the main poster design. I had to make sure that I drew each part of this puppet on different layers, because the group members who were going to animate the posts asked it to be done this way, as it would be easier to add motion to.
I then had to convert my work into Illustrator, as that is the software that everyone else had been using to work on. When I converted it over, everything merged onto one layer, so I had to re-separate everything, which luckily didn't take too long.

Mosad then sent me over his completed work, and I compiled everything together, separating his work into separate layers as well, and sent the finished version over to be animated.

I then had to come up with a description and hashtag for the social media post, describing the image and including a hashtag, this is what I came up with:

Welcome to the UK!

In our post based off of Cultural Differences, we’re showing off some of our favourite features of the culture, such as Big Ben and a delicious plate of Fish and Chips. We’ve also included some items to represent other cultural features such as a Sphinx, Eye of Hours to represent Egypt, and a Hibiscus rosa-sinensis – The national flower of Malaysia. We love seeing these items around our representative puppet to unite all of our cultural differences.

#UnityWithinDiversity

I was quite happy with this, although someone else within the group changed it slightly to be:

Welcome to the UK!

Lets show off some of our favourite features of the culture !! From one corner of the world, we've got Big Ben and delicious Fish and Chips from the UK, on the other we have the Sphinx and Eye of Horus, and from Malaysia, a Hibiscus rosa-sinensis – The national flower of Malaysia. We love seeing these items around our representative puppet to unite all of our cultural differences.

#UnityWithinDiversity

I think this worked well as a description, and I was happy with the work that I had put in to the final piece for the project.
