27/01/23 - Unreal Work
In today's lesson, we got to begin learning about the program Unreal Editor, which is used to design games.
To begin the lesson, we went through some information about the software that we were going to be using for the day, and once the program had been downloaded, we got to start up a new document, which we would be working on throughout the rest of the lesson to build up our skills within the software, as it was very new to all of us.
On this new document, we firstly had to open the Project Settings option, and in the Inputs section, add in some new Action and Axis Mappings, as doing this would allow us to be able to program our character to move in different directions, as well as jump, sprint and crouch. We also had to create new folders for our Character and Movement items, so that we could single both out. We also had to add a camera to our character, so that when in first person perspective, you can see what is in front of you, from the eye-line of the character.
We then had to start creating the blueprints to allow our character to actually move. We did this, by connecting up the Axis and Action Inputs that we created, to controller inputs, which is what connects the action to the character. We also had to connect some other applications, such as Mouse Sensitivity, Movement Scalers and Get Vectors.
After doing all of this, we got to place some obstacles in our world, to play around with, and make sure that all of our actions were working. We made a small parkour jumping course to test all of these things out. We then had the rest of the lesson to continue experimenting with what we had learnt, and building up the world that we had created.
