06/10/22 Illustrator Work
In today's lesson, we continued to work on Illustrator, to improve our skills even further.
We began the day, by recreating the Google Logo, from an image we got from the internet, and using the ellipse tools to create two circles, and using the Minus Front option on Pathfinder, to make a doughnut shape. We then made a rectangle, that was the same thickness of the circle, and placed it where the flick of the G sits. We then cut off the end piece of this flick to make it look better, and merged it with the rest of the G. Using the ruler, we then placed guides onto the workpiece, and rotated them, to allow us to segment the G, so that we could colour different sections. We then had to delete the inner guides and the top right segment of the circle, and then fill the remaining sections using the eyedropper tool on the original logo, to get the exact same colours.
We then played around with the logo on different artboards, to create different patterns, and use some techniques such as multiply, to make the pieces more see-through.
Later in the day, we used a new tool, the Shear tool, to create our own versions of the Nike logo. This tool, allows you to slant a rectangular shape, as seen in the logo. We then applied different effects to our logos, such as a gradient, some textures, and using the Blend tool, was able to create a shadow-looking effect, which looked quite interesting and cool. The original logo image that we had to copy from was a very low-resolution image as well, so it made our designs look a lot better and more professional, in my opinion.
In the afternoon, we had to complete the task of creating a logo and album cover for a band of our choice, and the album's name was Future Alignments. My band of choice was Tokio Hotel, as I really like their style of music, as it is quite pop-rock genre, and they have a very unique look about them. To design my album cover, I took inspiration from other creators, such as Karl Oskar Blase, Saul Bass, Giovani Pintori, and Rudolph de Harak. For my design, I went quite simplistic, yet I think still quite effective. The colours that I used within the gradients, I used the eyedropper tool on my bands' previous album covers, so that it fit in with their previous themes, as I really wanted my design to portray the same feelings of anger and rage that they have in other albums, with their use of reds and oranges, and I used the techniques, such as inner glow, and Colour Halftone, which I had learnt over the past few days, to make my design really eye-catching. I feel like I used a good balance of space in my creation, as I tried not to overcrowd the page with different designs and kept it more simplistic. I also think that by using white as my font colour, it really makes it stand out against the rest of the design with a good level of contrast, and is therefore a main focal point, especially as I have aligned it so that the words are separated from the main parts of the background design.
Along with my album cover design, I had to create a logo for my band of choice. I did this, by using the Shear tool, that I learned how to use earlier on in the day, as well as using the Minus Front Pathfinder option on my O's, which I also learnt during the day. For the e on my design, I also had to use a similar technique to how we made our Google logo in the morning, but with the extra steps of having to use the pen tool, to add and remove some more anchor points, to get the particular shapes that I needed for this letter, that I didn't need to do for the other logo design.
